Gene Migliaccio, DrPH serves as the GW Milken Institute School of Public Health Associate Dean for Applied Public Health, as a Professor of Global Public Health, and Director of the Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) Program. Dr. Migliaccio has served on the adjunct faculty since 1995, and in 2019 he joined full-time as Associate Dean.

Dr. Migliaccio retired from the federal government after serving 35 years in various health care capacities to include being appointed as a member of the Senior Executive Service (SES); and as a Commissioned Officer in the U.S. Public Health Service (PHS), and the U.S. Air Force (AF) Medical Service Corps. Within the SES, he served as Executive Director for Community Care Delivery Operations with the Veterans Health Administration where he built a nationwide provider network and oversaw an annual $11 billion budget for Veteran community healthcare; he also served as the Director of Federal Occupational Health Service within the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) where he provided leadership of occupational health services reaching 1.8 million Federal employees.

As a PHS Commissioned Corps Officer, Dr. Migliaccio managed an integrated health care delivery system as the Director of Immigration Health Services for the U.S. Government for more than 12 years. During this time, he also served as the Chief of Staff (Acting) for the U.S. Surgeon General where he worked on transformation of the organization and on health priorities for the nation (prevention, preparedness, and health disparities). Dr. Migliaccio’s assignments in the AF have included positions in hospital administration, managed care, information technology, and health care research. He also has health care legislative experience at both the federal and state levels.

Dr. Migliaccio has served on a number of public/private sector boards; for six years he served on the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Officer Foundation for the Advancement of Public Health as a Trustee, Vice President, and President. He presently serves on the Board of Governors for the National Military Family Association (NFMA). He is Board Certified in Health Care Management, and a Fellow in the American College of Health Care Executives (ACHE).

Dr. Migliaccio is a highly decorated career officer who has received numerous PHS, military, and private sector awards. Additionally, he received recognition for attaining meritorious national distinction in the field of public health by Delta Omega, the public health society. He also received a Proclamation from the Mayor of Houston for assistance with coordinating the federal health care response to over 200,000 Katrina evacuees in Houston, Texas. In 2020, he was elected as a Fellow to the National Academy of Public Administration (NAPA); and, selected as Health Care Leader of the Year by the U.S. PHS Commissioned Officers Association.
